BIMTech Training at Buchach Professional College

On April 2, 2026, within the framework of the international European Erasmus+ project (Jean Monnet Module) “EU experience in digital transformation using BIM: lessons for Ukraine”, a 6-hour training session titled “Introduction to BIM – the future of the construction industry” was conducted for second- and fourth-year students of Buchach Professional College, specialty G19 “Construction and Civil Engineering”.

The training was delivered by project coordinator Volodymyr Yasniy and project executor Olha Meshcheriakova. The aim of the event was to introduce students to modern approaches to the digital transformation of the construction sector, the role of BIM technologies in educating next-generation professionals, and practical methods already widely applied in European Union countries.

The training became an important step in disseminating the results of the BIMTech project among young people who will be involved in the design, construction, reconstruction, and modernization of Ukraine’s infrastructure. During the event, participants not only explored theoretical aspects of BIM but also observed its practical relevance for future professional activities.

The training program consisted of three thematic blocks, each focusing on key aspects of digital transformation in construction.

During the first part, participants explored the topic “What is BIM?”, gaining an understanding of the fundamental principles of Building Information Modeling, the transition from traditional design approaches to digital processes, and the advantages of BIM for project coordination and construction management. Special attention was given to BIM as a tool for improving accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in construction.

The second thematic block focused on key competencies required for BIM professionals based on EU practices. Students learned about the knowledge and skills currently demanded in the European professional environment, including interdisciplinary collaboration, digital literacy, working with information models, and adapting to innovative approaches in the construction industry.

The third part of the training addressed the topic “Gamification in BIM-based design processes”. Participants examined the potential of gamification in education and project workflows, including how interactive approaches can increase motivation, enhance engagement, and improve the understanding of complex BIM processes.

This topic generated strong interest among students, as the integration of engineering approaches with modern educational technologies creates new opportunities for professional development.

The training contributed to the understanding that BIM is not only an innovative design methodology but also an important tool for preparing competitive professionals capable of working according to modern European standards.

The relevance of the training is closely linked to current challenges faced by Ukraine, particularly the need for rapid, transparent, and high-quality infrastructure recovery. Therefore, the dissemination of BIM knowledge among students represents an important component in building professional capacity for future reconstruction.

We express our gratitude to Buchach Professional College for cooperation, and to the students for their active participation and interest in modern digital tools for the construction industry.
